BRUCE C. UNDERWOOD is the Vice President of Healthy Futures & preventive care specialist who has dedicated his life to health and healing. Preventive Care Specialists provide integrated lifestyle counseling in the areas of addictive behaviors, exercise, nutrition, and stress for the prevention and treatment of chronic and degenerative diseases. This lifestyle counseling is provided on a personal, individualized basis. Preventive Care Specialists organize, and facilitate support groups, and/or implement comprehensive wellness programs. Healthy Futures goal is provide disease management for business.

Doctor Underwood earned his doctorate in preventive care and his second masters degree in public health nutrition from Loma Linda University. He earned his first masters degree in exercise physiology from the University of Kansas - Lawrence campus. Dr. Underwood has taught at the graduate and undergraduate level in sports medicine for Chapman University. He served as the Sports Medicine Program Advisor for the Masters Degree Program in Sports Medicine at Chapman University. His research interest is in healthy aging. He has published extensively and presented nationally on the topics of nutrition and exercise related to the older adult. Dr. Underwood is interested in helping people to reduce their risk of addictions, diseases and increasing their chances of a long, healthy future.

Dr. Underwood served John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital as the director of its Valley Wellness and Prevention Center. During the course of his career, Underwood became the Executive Director of the Heart Institute of the Desert Foundation. Underwood served as director of fitness and tennis at the Health & Racquet Club at PGA WEST. He became certified as a preventive care specialist and as a nutrition specialist. Dr. Underwood also has served as an exercise physiologist for Kansas Cardiology Associates and for the Olive W. Garvey Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning in Wichita, Kansas. Bruce served as the marketing director for the Doctoral Program at Loma Linda while attending Loma Linda University.

Bruce served as preventive care professional with various fitness/medical/wellness facilities across the Coachella Valley. Bruce is current with his CPR and First Aid instructor certifications. He is a consulting Certified Preventive Care Specialist, Exercise Physiologist and a Certified Nutrition Specialist with Healthy Futures. Healthy Futures is a consulting company specializing in aging, disease management, fitness, health, nutrition and preventive care for individuals and organizations.

Doctor Underwood served as an elected official on the Coachella Valley Recreation and Park District’s (A California Special Taxation District dedicated to public recreation) Board of Directors. Dr. Bruce Underwood enjoys walking and running. He has competed in the Los Angeles Marathon, Seattle Marathon (twice), the Stockholm Marathon and the 100th running of the Boston Marathon in under four hours. Dr. Underwood is dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and his family.
